About the Project:
The H2O Residence, the first private project by City Developments Limited (CDL) designed to
integrate seamlessly with the surrounding nature and waters, was awarded the Active,
Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Certification by PUB. Located in front of Punggol
Reservoir at Sengkang West Avenue / Fernvale Link, the project incorporated various
sustainable designs which include Rain Water Harvesting, Bio-Pond, Rain Garden and Auto
Irrigation System. Throughout the initial planning and design phase, Netatech consultants
collaborated closely with DP Architects to ensure that the eco-systems implemented were
delivered with accurate engineering calculations and design.
In this project, rain water is harvested from the roof level of each residential block, which serves as catchment areas, and is channeled into the Rain Harvesting Tank on Basement 1. Prior to entering the tank, the harvested rain water is intercepted by a pre-filtration chamber that screens away sediments that are large enough to cause chokage downstream, mitigating risks at the pump stations and minimizing maintenance work in the tank itself. The Rain Tank is designed to hold 7 days' worth of rain water for application, and should there be no rain event after the 7th day, domestic water from PUB will fill up the tank up to the sufficient level for 1 day’s application. On the contrary, if heavy down pours over loads the tank, the excess water will then flow out through the Overflow Pipes and into the Bio-Pond Balancing Tank on Basement 2. This design approach prevents intense rain water run off into the building’s main drains, and maximizes the water conservation to serve both Bio Pond and Irrigation systems.
The Hydraulic Design for the project uses Irrigation CAD software that enables Netatech Engineers to simulate pump pressure ratings and flow rate requirements for a more accurate irrigation piping and zoning design. To conserve water and minimize water loss from overwatering, each irrigation zone’s application rate is carefully tabulated to optimize their daily requirement.
To ensure reliability and longevity of the system’s day-to-day operations, an advance irrigation controller with online monitoring capabilities is installed into the system. The controller monitors the pre-programmed irrigation cycles and maintains the performance based on the settings. Should any error such as a burst irrigation pipe, power failure, choked filter, unopen water or unauthorized watering occur, it will suspend the affected area of the system and trigger an SMS or Email to the Maintenance Team for quick rectification works. Monitoring of the system can also be done via smart devices such as Mobile Phones, Tablets or desktop PCs from remote locations. This gives the client great flexibility when it comes to retrieving performance data from the irrigation controller.
